Meal Prep Like a Pro

New year, new you! If 2020 was all about, “If it can go wrong, it will”, then let’s make 2021 the year of making small changes for big wins. For me that’s going to be stressing less about meal time and while making better-for-you food choices through meal prepping.

Meal prep is all about tooling up. It’s not a science, you don’t have to be precise and it doesn’t have to be perfect.

It’s about finding your zone and knocking it. Don’t worry if your food isn’t perfectly and neatly assembled. You know the images I’m talking about – the ones where the green beans are lined up like soldiers, tomatoes on display like baubles and everything else assembled ombre style.

That said, my meal prep may not appeal to the type A visually, but it does appeal to the hungry. And that is what meal prep is all about – eat. food. when. hungry!

Okay maybe not that Neathderthal-ish, but no one wants to labor over a multi-step recipe when your stomach starts gnawing at your shirt.

To keep yourself in check, here are a few pro-tips:

  • The right tool for the right job matters~ Stock up on Rubbermaid® TakeAlongs® Meal Prep Containers at Sam’s Club. Full disclosure, yes this is a partner post for Rubbermaid, but even if it wasn’t, I’d still be telling you to do this. I’m a fan of how light, convenient and supremely handy they are for meal prep. Along with that, the containers come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, with and without dividers. They’re even microwave-safe and top-rack dishwasher safe.
  • Build it and they will come ~ When it comes to food this absolutely rings true in my house. Meal prep has made eating better so much easier. No more stressing about what to make or worrying about my kids reaching for one bad snack after another. Having meals and even snacks ready gives them better food options.
  • Plan ahead, to get ahead ~  A little goes a long way when it comes to planning. This means know your menu, shop your items and have it all ready on meal prep day. This will streamline the process and avoid wasting time on runs to the grocery store during meal prepping. And if you are like me and like things in bite sizes, you’ll want to plan all of your recipes one day, shop another and then on the day of prep you’re only working on one task: assembly-line food making.

Now that you have the basics of meal prep down, head to your nearest Sam’s Club or shop online and pick up Rubbermaid® TakeAlongs® Meal Prep Containers for making meal prep easier, more convenient and helping to make everyday meals a healthier habit.
